Located on our ancestral lands in Gespeg, nestled against the mountain and just steps from the forest, the Gespeg Micmac Interpretation Site will introduce you to our history and culture. We honor our ancestors by sharing our values and traditional knowledge. The Mi’gmaq are settled in the vast traditional territory of the Mi'gma'gi, which includes not only these lands, but also the surrounding waters, islands, air, and resources. In Gespeg, meaning "where the land ends," you will experience an authentic Indigenous experience.
The history of our Mi'gmaq community goes back a long way. We are the first inhabitants of this territory. Throughout history, the Mi'gmaq of that time have maintained their traditional values and way of life. Our ancestors lived respecting nature and caring for the land. The Mi'gmaq vision and way of life are based on a holistic understanding of the land, the seasons, cycles, water, wind, and sky to create balance and harmony. We accept and respect the meaning of life.
You are welcome to Mi'gmaq territory, among the people of the dawn.
The community is committed to sharing its culture and highlighting our history from 1675 to the present day. A reproduction of a camp and an interpretive site allow visitors to discover the world of the Mi'gmaq through the four seasons. This place of exchange promotes the preservation of our traditions and our deep knowledge of the environment and highlights our traditional knowledge acquired from generation to generation. The guided tour and the permanent exposition relate this knowledge and demonstrate the daily lives of our elders through various objects and interpretive tools. A boutique is located on the first floor where you can discover various art objects made by the Mi'gmaq.
