Three centuries later, Gespeg is once again imbued with this period atmosphere, as a reproduction of a camp and an interpretation site have been erected there, allowing visitors to discover the world of the Mi\u2019gmaq through the four seasons. The construction of the site we know today was carried out in 1997 thanks to the hard work of the community and the knowledge of an ethnoarchaeologist. This place of exchange is a pillar of our culture and promotes the preservation of our traditions and our deep knowledge of the environment.<\/p>\n

Explore the Mi’gmaq universe through the interpretation center and its boutique, as well as the faithful reconstruction of a traditional village and its summer camp as found in the 17th century. Rain or shine enjoy a unique experience on Mi’gmaq land in the presence of interpreter-guides and artisans who are members of the Nation. You will be able to appreciate our ancestral know-how as well as our contribution to the Gasp\u00e9 community.<\/p>\n

Walk a short trail through a village where wigwams, fire pits, utilitarian objects, and hunting traps that reveal the practical and ingenious way of life of our ancestors.<\/p>\n

Discover the history of our ancestors on our Gespe’gewa’gi territory during the years 1675\u20131690, the time of the beginning of European colonization.<\/p>\n

A visit to the traditional camp gives you an insight into its social organization, as well as the physical movements and hunting and fishing activities carried out throughout the four seasons.<\/p>\n

The friendly staff who welcome you are mostly members of the Mi’kmaq Nation and are dedicated to making your visit an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n

Each piece on display tells the story of a semi-nomadic people living in perfect harmony with nature and shaping their environment with respect and ingenuity.
